Congratulations Mr Mayor!
I thought Oscar Goodman pretty much had the key to the city in his pocket when he first stepped onto the Las Vegas political stage as a performer about eight years ago in his first run for mayor, and I wasn't far wrong. In Tuesday's primary election he garnered over 80% of the ballots cast to easily seal his hold on a third term as Las Vegas' most popular mayor.
Mr Goodman pretty much personifies what people expect of a mayor in the Wild West and Entertainment Mecca of the Desert. He looks the part, number one. Spot him in a crowd on the reviewing stand and he's the guy you'd pick just looking at him; wizened hair, bushy chops, red nose and animated smile.
He's connected, number two -- I'd bet he's on a first name basis with every important power broker in the Las Vegas Valley, front of the house
and back of the house, if you know what I mean.
Best of all, he knows what he's doing, whether it's holding court at the City Council (televised on Ch 2 for all to see) or promoting Las Vegas to the rest of the world as the Greatest City, City of Lights, City of Entertainment, City of New Opportunity, what-have-you.
With Oscar as pit boss, the game (for four more years, anyway) will not languish. Good luck, Mr Mayor!
